Obituary for Muriel Treat (Moffitt)

Muriel Treat (Moffitt)
Muriel (Moffitt) Treat, 93, passed away peacefully at home with her family on Sunday, February 9, 2014, before going to meet Jesus and joining her husband in heaven. Born February 24, 1920, Muriel had a love for God, a love for her family and a love for sweets. She was the devoted wife of the late Carleton Treat. Muriel, the daughter of John and Alice (Fox) Moffitt, grew up in West Haven and worked as a secretary for John Hancock Insurance. She married Carleton on May 15, 1943 and moved to Oxford, where they built their home and raised their two daughters. She was a member of Living Springs Christian Fellowship for 30 years and served as their Treasurer and Secretary. Muriel will be remembered for her caring ways, the wonderful meals she cooked for her family and others in need, her support of charities (almost every one that asked), her love for baking and eating tasty sweets, and most of all, for how she prayed. Spending time with God and praying for others was most important to her. There were some prayers that she continued for years and became daily petitions to God. Her family will miss her dearly and will strive to embrace her generosity and prayerful ways. That family includes her daughters, Barbara Casagrande (James) of Oxford, and Suzanne Ward (Tom) of Millbrook, NY, grandsons Robert Casagrande (Aimee), Andrew Ward (Pam), Daniel Ward, granddaughters Maribeth (Casagrande) Imbimbo (Vincent), Kate (Casagrande) Zarro (James), and 6 great-grandchildren Anthony, Abigail, Olivia, Bethany, Grace and Noah. She was predeceased by her brother, John Moffitt, Jr. and sisters, Rita Harkin and Ursula Walsh. Calling hours will be Friday, February 14, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Living Springs Christian Fellowship, 141 Great Hill Road, Seymour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Living Springs Christian Fellowship for the Agape Boys Orphanage, a charity near and dear to Muriel’s heart.
