Obituary for Charles A. Ovesne

Charles Anthony Ovesne, age 73, of Middlebury, CT, the beloved husband of the late Judith Ovesne, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side, on December 24th, 2015. Born in Derby on April 23, 1942, to the late Charles and Jane (Beasley) Ovesne, Charlie spent most of his years as a resident of Seymour, later making his home on Lake Quassapaug, in Middlebury. Charlie was a graduate of the University of New Haven and was a long time employee of the Davis Oil Company before his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved fishing and boating as well as photography, collecting trains, attending car shows and refurbishing older model cars. Family and friends visiting Judy and Charlie’s home were invited to join them and their dog Daisy for a ride on their pontoon boat with Charlie proudly sharing stories along the way regarding the history of the lake. Charlie was innovative, creative and could fix or build almost anything. He was proud of the fact that along with a friend, built the majority of his home on the lake, expanding the existing structure to accommodate and entertain friends and family. Charlie enjoyed travelling with his family and spent time in Europe, the Caribbean Islands, Hawaii, Australia and touring the United States. He was an active member of Tyler’s Cove Association, Middlebury Congregational Church, and was the neighbor that anyone would love to have, always willing to lend a hand and helpful. His work ethic, resourcefulness, dedication and generosity will be greatly missed.

Charlie is survived by his sister, Barbara Patulak (John), of Seymour; children, Denise Blake of West Haven, Paula Traver (Jack) of Middlebury and Hilton Head, South Carolina, Jamie Johnson (Ned Kontogouris) of Chicago, Illinois, Robert Johnson of Waterbury; sister-in law Sharon Frasca (Sonny) of Huntington; grandchildren, Brandon Traver of Middlebury, Jillian Traver (Gerrard Ball) of the United Kingdom, Julia Blake of Naugatuck and Jeffrey Blake of Quantico, Virginia; nephews Mark (Nicole) Patulak of Vermont, James Patulak (Sandra) of East Hartford, and niece Jennifer Turpin (Neil) of Glendale, Arizona. Charlie will be dearly missed by Susan Blake, Kathleen Fisher, cherished friends, Patricia Dalusio (Richie) Arnold Thorpe, Bill Parsons, former colleagues, cousins and many neighbors on the lake. The family will be forever thankful and grateful for the loving and wonderful care given to Charlie during his illness by David and Aziza.

Friends may call on Saturday, January 2nd from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., with a service at 1:30, at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour, CT.
