Life Story for Gregory John "Greg" Barna

On Tuesday June 28, 2016, Gregory John Barna died peacefully in his sleep, at his home in Beacon Falls, CT, at the age of 52.
Greg is survived by his two sons, Zachary John Barna and Andrew John Barna, and his former wife Diane Heavens Barna of Seymour Ct . He is also survived by his siblings Valerie Barna Clapp of New Milford, CT and Eric Barna and his wife Grace of Poughkeepsie, NY. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Mamie Barna of Seymour CT. He leaves behind two aunts, Frances Rozum of Waterbury, CT, and Helen Badini of Potomac, MD, as well many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Greg was born at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT on December 29, 1963 to Mamie and Michael Barna. He graduated from Emmett O’Brien Technical High School in 1981. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1990, and served 10 years as an aircraft power plant repairer. His service included a tour of duty in Bosnia as well as several other overseas tours. During his service, Greg was awarded many decorations; the Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Nato Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal, just to name a few. He was Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 2000.
Gregory lived in Seymour, CT for most of his life, and after leaving the military he worked as a high voltage electrical technician for DES, which is currently CBS in Seymour, CT until his retirement in 2015.
Gregory was an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 65 in Seymour/Oxford, and he enjoyed nothing more than camping and participating in scouting activities with his sons. He was well known for his camping culinary skills.
Visiting hours and a memorial service are scheduled for July 12, 2016 at the Ralph E Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church St. in Seymour, CT. Visiting hours will be from 5 PM to 7 PM followed by a brief military memorial service.
Burial at the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT, with full Military Honors, will be at the convenience of the family.
