Obituary for Ivor "Mitch" Mitchell

Ivor "Mitch"  Mitchell
Ivor “Mitch” Mitchell, age 81 of Seymour, beloved husband of Christine (Dawkins) Mitchell, entered peaceful rest surrounded by family on Monday, June 5, 2017 in Griffin Hospital, Derby. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, on February 11, 1936, he was a son of the late George and Jane Mitchell. Mitch had a passion for education. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Political Science from McMaster’s University (Ontario, Canada) and later earned his Master’s Degree in Urban Studies from Southern CT University. He began his professional career in banking, becoming a manager for Citi Bank, and later used his desire for helping others as a rehab therapist for St. Vincent/Hall-Brooke Behavioral Services (Bridgeport). An avid domino’s player, Mitch also enjoyed playing and umpiring cricket matches, but he will be remembered for his love of spending time with his family. In addition to his wife and best friend for 51 years, survivors include his loving children, Ivor Mitchell of TX, James Mitchell of Canada, Patrick Mitchell of England, Ivor Dawkins of MD, Ivorine Mitchell of NY, Joy Mitchell of New Haven, Debbie Mitchell of Seymour and Janette James of Stratford; brother, Keith Mitchell of NY; as well as 15 adored grandchildren including, DeWayne, Christine, Charmaine, Natalie, Grace, Olivia, Cheyenne, Ivie and Ivor. He was predeceased by his sister Rema Tennant of NY. A celebration of Mitch’s life will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 9 a.m. DIRECTLY in the Seymour United Methodist Church, 90 Pearl St. Seymour, CT 06483. Interment will follow in Mt. Meadows Cemetery, Seymour. Family and friends can call on Friday, June 16 from 5 to 8 pm in the Ralph Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church St. Seymour, CT 06483.
