Obituary for Doris H. Dilley (Grass)

OXFORD, CT: Doris H. Dilley, age 88 of Oxford entered peaceful rest on February 5, 2018 at the Griffin Hospital, Derby; she was the beloved wife of the late Robert L. Dilley, Sr. Mrs. Dilley was born in Derby on June 14, 1929, daughter of the late Floyd and Catherine (Safford) Grass. She enjoyed being a homemaker, and had previously worked at the Uniroyal Corporation, Footwear Division, Naugatuck. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and held everyone together as the family matriarch. Doris had a love of music, and especially for Country Music. She was a self-taught accordion player, and she loved to sing. Doris also enjoyed cooking, baking, and canning, particularly things she grew from her garden. She loved the outdoors and nature; watching and feeding the birds in her yard. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR Racing. "She was a courageous woman with a zest for life"!

Our beloved Mother and Grandmother leaves behind her loving family including her sons, Robert L. Dilley, Jr. of Oxford, and Russell D. Dilley (Joann) of Seymour, her daughters, Brenda Dilley McWilliams (Joseph) of Naugatuck, and Doris A. Dilley of Oxford; a sister, Gertrude Pavolich of Naugatuck; grandchildren, Cliff Husted, Maggie Husted, Will Husted, Mike Keller, Cheyenne Dilley, and Lauren and Megan Dilley, also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Lloyd Grass and Edwin Grass, and her sister, Evelyn Capone. She also leaves behind her lifelong friend, Lorrie Holloway.


The family would like to express a special thank you to her daughter, Doris, who has cared for her for the past 16 years, her devoted caretaker Lude, as well as to Paul and the neighbors and friends who have helped throughout the years.

Calling Hours will be Saturday from 9 - 10:30 a.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. A Funeral Service in celebration of Doris' life will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Southford Cemetery, Oxford.
