Life Story for Tsu Ju Yang

Tsu Ju  Yang
Tsu Ju Yang, 77, of Beacon Falls, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, December 28, 2009. He was born on August 14, 1932 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Mr. Yang earned a BVM and a DVM from National Taiwan University in Taipei. In 1971, he received a Ph.D in Immunology from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. After four years as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Biology at the University of Tennessee, he became a Professor in the Department of Pathobiology at the University of Connecticut, where he spent the rest of his career. During a sabbatical from the university, he was a Visiting Fellow at the prestigious Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne, Australia. At the Department of Pathobiology he served as the Assistant Head and Chairman of the graduate program; he was the Acting Head of the department in 1994. After retiring in 1997, he became a Professor Emeritus at the University of Connecticut. Mr. Yang published over a hundred articles in journals, such as Cancer Research, Oncology, and the Journal of National Cancer Institute. However, he was most proud of the many graduate students he worked with at UConn, guiding over two dozen students to their Masters and Ph.Ds. Throughout his life, he had an avid interest in travel, visiting Europe, Asia, Central America, and Northern Africa. Mr. Yang is survived by his wife Sue and his three children and their families: Kai, her husband Lloyd Friedman, and their children David, Jonathan and Alexander; Andrew, his wife Sophia Chiang, and their children Willow Taylor and Lleyton; and Michael and his wife, Angella Beshara. He is also survived by his brothers Tsu Wen and Tsu Su, and his sister Yueh Shan.A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ralph E.
